Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage as Tems, is a Nigerian musician who has been outspoken about her past difficulties and dealing with extreme poverty.

The 27-year-old revealed she used to steal food in an interview with British GQ since it was her only means of subsistence.She claimed, “There were times when I was not only broke, but also despairing. I once stole food. I used to only visit my aunt’s place to get meals to take home from her. I simply thought, “What good am I here for right now?” You must keep those moments in mind. because that individual is no longer alive.

I had no sense of self-worth. I didn’t believe I was attractive. My voice was nothing to me, not even a thought.
There are so many individuals who can sing, and even if I’m not a model and can’t dance, I’ll take any opportunity I can get. I’ll be the best under-the-bridge singer ever, even if I do wind up singing elsewhere.
