Ayodeji Oluokun, an associate pastor of the Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG), City of David Parish, Victoria Island, Lagos, was given a two-year prison term on Wednesday by an Ikeja Special Offenses Court for writing a 1.6 million dollar fake check.
According to reports, Oluokun was accused with theft, issuing a fake check, and acquiring money under false pretenses, together with his company, Peak Petroleum Industry Nigeria Ltd. The prosecution has successfully proven the accusation of issuing a bad check against the defendants, according to Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo’s ruling.
However, Taiwo cleared the accused of theft and money laundering charges and dismissed them. “The defendant issued two checks to the notional amount of 1.6 million dollars were paid to the fictitious complainant, but they were not honored because the defendant’s account was empty. This court believes that the defendant purposefully issued the counterfeit check. He is now officially declared guilty of counts one and two of issuing a fake check.
The first defendant received a sentence of two years in prison or a fine of N2 million, and the second defendant received a penalty of N2 million in fine.
